October...2006
Dear Birds, Humans and Elephants, Some parrots are so moody. Last month Matt described Harry’s horrorible behavior as he bit down repeatedly on Matt’s thumb. On the other hand, Emma, who has been strangely moody for the past month or so, suddenly has become my little angel. He can’t get enough of my company; he lies on his back and plays and cuddles and he just seems incredibly happy. Boy, is that sudden. These birds are complex beings, they can certainly be an enigma. So people of all kinds, our 16th show has come and gone and it was a practical and emotional success. I was kind of anxious there for a while because there didn’t seem to be as many birds as we generally have entered, but our new judge, Peggy Ann, made up for the lack with a charisma that was far beyond anything we have experienced before. She evaluated every bird and acknowledged the great job every bird owner was doing. Our vendors did a great job and I want to thank everyone from our club who participated in making this another fantastic endeavor of the Catskill Exotic Bird Club. We are good when we work together, really, really good. And of course, my greatest expression of gratitude goes to little Matthew B. Frumess for all the work and sweat and blood he put into chairing yet another bird show and making it great. Our plate is full again for yet another few months. We have Kathy Stevens, president of the Catskill Animal Sanctuary as our guest speaker tonight. Next month, Dr. Lonnie Kasman returns to us to share his expertise about avian medicine and December brings our holiday covered dish dinner party and penny social. Peggy Ann, our new judge is coming back to us in January to do a presentation. Then for February (my birthday month) we are going to have bird videos. Anyone with ideas for programs is more than welcome to share them with me and I will do whatever I can to accommodate you. That is about it for this month. I wish everyone good health and lots of happiness. Love those birds and take care of them...Remember people, the leaves are falling, the season is changing and it is getting colder. Make sure to keep those outside bird feeders full. Our wild friends grow to depend on us, let us keep them happy. ............................................................................................ LOVE, Richie |
