7. What do you feed your bird(s)?

House birds get pellets and people food. Peafowls get dog kibble, corn, and game pellets. Crow gets Eukanuba Dog Kibbles, hard-boiled eggs, and whatever else I have.

8. Describe the funniest encounter that you had with one of your birds.

About 20 years ago, the crow I had raised, named Quetzal, was playing with the laundry that I had hung out on the clothesline - pinching off the clothespins, yanking off socks, etc. (Yes, they do respond to their name. The most awesome experience is to see crows flying overhead, call "your" crow by name, and have that bird leave the others and come straight to you and land on your shoulder). Anyway, I suddenly realized Quetzal was flying off with one sock of my son's only pair of black dress socks that he had to wear that evening. Quetzal took the sock to the top of the tall dead tree, which was his usual stashing place for that sort of prize! Well, this crow's favorite treat was the cheese filling in a Katz's Pineapple-Cheese Coffee Cake...thank goodness I had some in the kitchen. So, I got a piece, came out by where Quetzal was still playing with the sock in the tree. I could not show him his treat yet because he would leave the sock and come to me. I had to patiently wait until Quetzal finally decided to take the sock somewhere else and then show him what I had. So, when he was flying, carrying the sock, and saw his favorite food that I had in my hand, he dropped the sock and came straight for the cheesecake piece. Because the piece was so big, I was able to run to the sock before he could race me back to it!

9. What advice would you give to a first-time bird owner?

Learn all you can before you get the bird...except that you haven't a clue as to what you ought to know. So, you should have someone available who does know.

Thank you Mary for sharing with us!
