A Christmas Story Ellen A few years ago I lost my CAG to a tragic accident. Although I have other fids I would always miss my Whisper. For ages I did not want to even consider another CAG, but lately a little nagging voice inside kept telling me that another Grey would be great and would add to my already chaotic household of three dogs, seven cats, a tank of fish and seven birds. (Like I need a little more noise.) Unfortunately, even though the little voice inside kept saying, "Yes", my pocketbook kept screaming even louder, "No way". Awhile ago I put Whisper's picture in the Bird Forum as a memorial to him at my friend Rita's suggestion. Well, one evening I'm checking my e-mail and there is a message from a person that saw Whisper's picture on the Internet, telling me that he had a friend that had a Grey who needed a new home and was I in the least bit interested. After thinking for about five seconds I e-mailed him back and told him yes and would he give me the particulars. As I work on weekends I could not get his reply until that Monday. As soon as I got home I flew (no pun intended) to my computer to see if there was a message waiting. The gentleman provided me with his 800 number, which I promptly called. (I am now thinking that this bird is probably in Alaska and it will cost me my first born to get it here plus, of course, cage, toys and all of the wonderful little extras that we get for all our fids). Ah yes, the Spirit of the Season is with me!! The people that have this bird live right here in New York State about an hour and a half from me. Okay, off we go (my friend Rita and I) to see if this fid is anything I would be interested in (as if I could ever say no) and needless to say, and to make a long story shorter, we brought "Olush" home. "Olush" (pronounced O looush and is Turkish for "Sunny) came home along with cage, which thankfully broke down flat, his stand and other assorted goodies. He is a delight...talks a blue streak (yes, in Turkish and in English) and after a day or so of settling in, one of the most affectionate birds that has ever owned me. I would like to thank the gentleman who thought enough to e-mail me and of course the people that gave me this beautiful bird and to let you know he is very happy and is well loved. Rest well, Whisper. |
